The setup consisted of very unstable air pooling in the Red River Valley. The wind shear wasn’t very promising but CAPE values were around 2-3K as well as plenty of low level moisture resulting in low LCL and LFC’s. The tornado that ripped through eastern North Dakota June 17th has been rated as EF4 with peak winds of approximately 185 mph.
